  • A Non-Invasive Prenatal Blood Test

Veracity is a NIPT Test offered at Ultrasound Care clinics from 10 weeks of pregnancy, giving expectant mothers an opportunity to screen for genetic conditions that their baby may have inherited. It analyses the fetal DNA that can be gathered from a mother's blood sample for abnormal chromosomes.

By analysing fetal DNA present in the mother's bloodstream, Veracity can detect conditions such as Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, and Patau syndrome with a remarkable 99.9% accuracy. Veracity is a non-invasive blood test that eliminates the need for invasive procedures, reducing the risk of miscarriage associated with traditional methods.

What Does Veracity Test For?

Veracity offers three levels of testing, with each level testing for different genetic conditions. It is designed to test for the most common fetal aneuploidies (conditions) that occur when there is an abnormal number of chromosomes.

Autosomal Aneuploidies:

  • Down syndrome (Trisomy 21)
  • Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18)
  • Patau syndrome (Trisomy 13)

Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies:

  • Turner syndrome (Monosomy X)
  • Triple X syndrome (Trisomy X)
  • Klinefelter syndrome (XXY)
  • Jacobs syndrome (XYY)
  • XXYY syndrome

Microdeletions:

  • DiGeorge syndrome (22q11.2)
  • 1p36 deletion syndrome (1p36)
  • Smith-Magenis syndrome (17p11.2)
  • Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (4p16.3)

How Does the Test Work?

Veracity blood tests are done via a small blood sample from the mother. The fetal DNA is then tested directly, providing the highest accuracy in detection. It is completely safe for the baby and mother with no associated risks of miscarriage.

Is Veracity Testing the Baby's DNA?

During pregnancy, fetal DNA travels from the placenta to the mother's blood stream and circulates with her DNA. The Veracity testing process can accurately measure the fetal free-cell DNA in the mother's blood once it has been isolated correctly.

Who Can Book a Veracity Test & When?

You can take a Veracity test from 10 weeks of pregnancy, obtaining results within 7-10 working days (subject to postal delays). There is no age limit on this test; if you want to take the test, you can book with Peek A Baby who will then take a sample of your blood. This is sent off for processing and analysis before sending your results.

Common Veracity FAQs

Autosomal Aneuploidies refers to fetal abnormalities that do not involve the sex chromosomes.

Veracity tests for autosomal aneuploidies including Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome. These genetic conditions are caused by having an extra copy of a chromosome in some or all cells of the body.

Sex chromosome aneuploidies is a relatively common group of genetic disorders that are characterised by either loss or gain of one or more sex chromosome.

Veracity is a completely safe way of testing fetal DNA for these genetic conditions.

Veracity is a completely safe way of testing fetal DNA for genetic conditions.

Microdeletions are genetic conditions that have been caused by the loss of a part of a chromosome. Usually, microdeletions are characterised by intellectual impairment or congenital abnormalities with the severity of the symptoms being dependent on the size and location of microdeletion.

Veracity tests for microdeletions as part of the highest level of testing.

Yes, Veracity can be given for single and twin pregnancies.
