Testicular Scans
A testicular ultrasound is a diagnostic test that will obtain images of the testicles and surrounding tissues. It is also known as a Sonography or scrotal ultrasound scan. If you are worried about a lump or are experiencing some abnormal pain around that area, why not book in with us for a scan…we will provide you with a report of our findings so if anything is wrong you can get things moving quickly with your GP or if nothing is found your mind is put to rest immediately.
Symptoms
You may feel you need a testicular scan if you have any of the following symptoms:
- You find a lump in your scrotum
- If you have received any kind of trauma to the scrotum / testicular area
- You feel you may have a twisted testicle (also known as testicular torsion)
- You have swelling or pain in your testicles
- You need to find an undescended testicle
Testicular Scans
A testicular scan is a safe and painless procedure and we provide instant results! Typically you will not need any type of aesthetic during this procedure. A testicular scan is a procedure that should only take about 15-30 minutes; it will involve you being asked to remove your lower clothing and lie down on your back. Once you are comfortable, one of our trained sonographers will apply a water-based gel to your testicles; this gel will allow a transducer to move around the scrotum moving back and forth.
A testicular scan is a low-risk procedure; you will not endure any radiation exposure during the procedure. It should be pain-free (if you have swelling or injury in the testicular area you may experience slight discomfort) Ultrasound echoes can provide images to observe and diagnose abnormalities in the testicles.
Once the procedure is complete the gel will be wiped off, you will be able to get dressed and resume your normal daily activity. You can eat and drink as normal before and after the test. No recovery time is needed after the testicular scan.
Here at Ultrasound Care, you will walk away with a diagnostic report which will include any measurements and all findings at the time of the scan. This can be offered to your GP or consultant which allows for a much faster course of action if any problems are found and if not you have instant peace of mind that all is okay. All of this proves to be a so much quicker route than going through the NHS.
A member of our dedicated team here at Ultrasound Care will be more than happy to arrange an appointment for you at your earliest convenience, also, we are on hand to answer any questions you may have. No referral is needed from your GP as Ultrasound Care is patient-led care.
